What Are Solar Nails | Is It Worth It?

December 9, 2019 By Kelly Pepper 2 Comments

What are solar nails? You’ve probably overheard a technician offer this to a client, but have no idea what that means. Let me tell you a secret… It is no different than your typical, branded acrylic nails! How come? Read on!

What Are Solar Nails | Should You Try It?

Since the majority of nail art enthusiasts are not aware of its purpose or advantage (if there’s any), we will differentiate it with the things commonly associated with it. Without further ado, let’s discuss what solar nails are.

What are Solar Nails

Solar nails are your typical acrylic nails but it is branded. These nails are a product of Creative Nail Design and are exclusively manufactured by this company. You can tell that you are having solar nails done through its appearance. These nails are pink and white in color and look exactly like French manicured nails. The company claims these nails, despite being acrylic of nature, are far better and superior to your regular acrylic nails.

Are There Any Advantages to Using These Nails?

Since it is not considered extensions, the product claims to protect the nails from the common damages extensions can cause especially when used for a long period of time. This is true since solar nails are really embedded into your natural nails, thus keeping its gloss. Another benefit of solar nails is that you can save from using nail polish since it’s already glossy and the white and pink colors looks good already. I must admit, these nails retain their luster and shine even after continuous use and washing.

Another great quality about these nails is its resistance to UV rays. Acrylic and gel nails often get damaged when you visit a tanning shop. But this one has proven to endure a great amount of time during that process. So if you’re the type who visits tanning stations regularly, then this is a good reason why you should try solar nails.

How to Put Solar Nails?

There are only three steps when applying solar nails. First, you simply need to groom and clean your natural nails. Next, place the white nail into your entire nail. Lastly, put the pink nail onto the white nail, but keep it on the nail bed.

Will it Last Long?

It’s no secret that we treat artificial nails with utmost care since they are not very sturdy and one wrong move can cause them to snap. These nails, on the other hand, is said to be stronger and that you can be worry-free while sporting it. Though I looked around and see if I can find what materials solar nails are made of. All I found was some marketing and branding descriptions like, “your natural nails become stronger as well as tougher.” I found nothing specific, it just said, high-quality materials that last for a long time.

How to Remove it

Removing solar nails is simple. Just visit your local nail salon and have a technician remove these nails. Of course, you can also remove it yourself. You just need time and patience to do so. The first step is you need to dip your nails in pure acetone for 25-30 minutes. The next step would be to scrape from the sides gently to remove the nails. Just a reminder though, do not apply too much force while doing this as this can easily ruin your natural nails.

What the Salon Is Not Telling You

Since I’ve mentioned that solar nails are a brand, think of it this way: There are Nike and a sea of no-name brands. When you go to a nail salon, they’ll ask you if you want to get solar nails done. What will happen is they will use the no-name brand of acrylics if you decline. When in fact, you should be getting the branded version from the get-go! So if you opt to get solar nails, you’ll be charged way more.

Why I Think it’s Not Worth it

What sets aside solar nails from gel or acrylic nails is maintenance. Those who have acrylic or gel nails done have to visit the salon again every 2 weeks to get their artificial nails maintained or replaced. Solar nails, meanwhile, doesn’t have to go through that process. The entire nail doesn’t have to be replaced but instead refill it every three weeks. However, the downside of it all is it costs way more than the traditional options. Having it done costs way more and the time you need to get back to the salon to get it fixed doesn’t make much difference.

Having solar nails done is indeed impractical and misleading. We don’t want to spend extra dollars on something we can actually get for a lot less. I had it done before and believe me, it doesn’t look fancier or better than your normal acrylic or gel nails. Though if you have the budget and you are really curious to try, then, by all means, try it. The best advice I can give is to get a good explanation from your technician first before proceeding. But Now that you know, it is still your discretion whether you want to try this or not. Stay informed sisters!

Some nail salons say gel and acrylic are the same. Is the hard gel better?
