Can Undercover Colors nail polish prevent sexual assault? Find out how this revolutionary product might prevent date rape with the cutest nail art!
Will The New Undercover Colors Nail Polish Help Stop Date Rape?
A decade or two ago, women couldn’t talk about sexual assault much less take measures to prevent it publicly. Nowadays, different technology is being developed to prevent unwanted sexual advances to both men and women. No wonder four guys from NC State decided to create Undercover Colors nail polish – the revolutionary nail tech that can reportedly help prevent date rape. And you can use it for the cutest nail art ever!
With this product, which is expected to come out in next few months, women can go out and have fun without being scared of drinking laced drinks in clubs or parties.

1. How It Works
The new product mainly aims to help college students facing a higher probability of sexual assaults on campus during the start of fall semester. According to the Undercover Colors nail polish Facebook page, the product can detect the “presence of common date rape drugs in a variety of beverages through color change.”
It’s similar to mood changing polishes that shift from one color to another depending on temperature. However, the polish in question changes colors when in contact with a date rape drug. Some of the drugs predators use to slip into the drinks of their unsuspecting victims include GHB and Rohypnol (roofies).
2. Date Rape Prevention
Creators of Undercover Colors nail polish wants to prevent possible sexual assault resulting from sipping a spiked drink at parties or a night out at a bar. Tyler Confrey-Maloney, one of the founders of the company, attested to the prototype’s accuracy in determining if a beverage was laced or not. Although it hasn’t been released to the public yet, this “wearable nail tech” can help ease parents’ worries about sending their children off to college.
There are still other ways that a woman or a man can be sexually attacked, but this nail polish might just help lower the chances of that happening.
3. Setbacks
Despite the good intentions of this product, some people still have apprehensions. Some believe that the product, while well-intentioned, seems to be too focused on preventing possible attacks at parties, bars or clubs. Huffington Post pointed out that a huge percentage of survivors revealed that their assailants were people they were already acquainted with. These individuals used plain alcohol instead of drugs to inebriate their victims.
Others claim the project also suffers from a lack of actual data on the detection of such drugs in drinks. Individuals with bad intentions watch the news and keep tabs on new technology, giving them the chance to change their approach or the drugs they’ll use for evil deeds.
4. Product Update
Despite the lucrative nature of Undercover Colors nail polish, investors quickly snatched the chance to invest in this venture. It attracted the attention of Cary angel investor David Gardner who thought the entire idea was a game changer. Cindy Whitehead also put in some money and time for the project. She pushed for the FDA approval of the first female sexual dysfunction drug.
In November, the company raised $5.5 million and is well on the way to releasing the nail polish publicly. The company promises that there’s “much to come in 2017.”
