Not all nails shapes work with all types of nail designs. To get the best nail art, you have to figure out what shape works for your fingers. Whether you want sexy stiletto nails or practical square nails, you can create them by yourself thanks to these easy DIY tutorials. And you don’t have to break the bank for this!
Find out which of these nail shapes look best with your next manicure!
1. Stiletto Nails
You will need a bit more tools if you want to try stiletto nails. Once you’ve gathered them, however, shaping your nails would be as easy as 1-2-3!
If you have short nails, apply a bead of acrylic on your nail with the assistance of a nail form. The form will help you monitor the length of each nail, as well as keep it in proper shape while the acrylic dries. Pinch the sides then buff it into shape to get sexy stiletto nails!
2. Coffin-Shaped Nails
This shape needs a steadier hand. Since its shape follows that of a coffin or ballet shoes, you will need to actually sculpt the nails on the nail form.
Using the nail form as your guide, sculpt the acrylic bead into a squarish shape with a flat top. Then, using an electric drill or a nail file, start shaping the sides of the dried nail until it is slightly tilting near the top. Repeat on the other side. Finally, flatten the top to complete the coffin shape.
3. Almond-Shaped Nails
If you want long nails but can’t handle stilettos, then you have to give almond-shaped nails a try. Like the almond, this nail shape has a wide, rounded bottom with a triangular top.
To get this shape, you have to grow out your nail a bit before starting to file the sides. File it towards the center, keeping the side tilted to give it a more pointed top.
4. Oval Shaped Nails
I just love this shape! It makes my fingers long elongated and is also quite easy to do.
With slightly long nails, file your nails starting from the sides. Curve the nail file to the center, but don’t make the top pointed. This will give you slightly elongated sides and a rounded top, similar to how an oval should look like.
5. Square Nail Shapes
This one is probably the easiest one to do. With the help of a clipper with straight “teeth”, cut your nails to resemble a square top. Then lightly buff the corners of your nail edge to make them blunt. You wouldn’t want to accidentally cut yourself or anyone with those sharp corners.
6. Round Nail Shapes
Round nails are also quite easy to do. They look a bit like the oval ones and you file them the same way as well. However, these nails have a more rounded tip and, well, looks more round from the cuticle to the edge.
