With all the essentials taken care of, let’s begin!
At-Home Hand and Foot Spa: A Step by Step Guide
The following steps can apply for both your hands and feet. Treating which one first is totally up to you but I recommend starting with your feet like a true professional.
1.) Start Clean
If you have any previous nail polish, do yourself a favor and use a nail polish remover to give yourself a blank canvas to work with for the upcoming manicure and pedicure. I recommend using a non-acetone remover because acetone can be quite harsh on your skin.
2.) Prepare Your Hand and Foot Spa Soak
Fill your plastic tub with warm water. Make sure the tub is tall enough for you to submerge your feet or hands completely. Put 8-10 drops of the essential oil of your choice. After that, add in the baking soda and salt. This will act as the cleansing agent for your feet.
For your foot soak, you can also spice things up by adding marbles at the bottom of the tub.
Soak your hands or feet for about 10-15 minutes and of course, relax! Enjoy the zen ambiance you’ve worked so hard to achieve.
3.) Scrub Impurities Away!
Once the 10-15 minutes of soaking and relaxation is done, it’s now time to remove stubborn dead skin cells! Apply your scrub mixture generously and scrub gently using an exfoliation brush. If you don’t have an exfoliation brush, your hands or a simple toothbrush will do just fine. For your feet, direct more effort on the heels, where the skin is most calloused.
Rinse it off with the remainder of your soak water.

4.) Moisturize and Massage
After the thorough scrubbing, pat your feet or hands dry with a clean towel, then apply moisturizer all over. While applying moisturizer, massage your feet or hands gently. Doing this will loosen muscle tension and improve blood circulation.
5.) Time for a DIY Mani-Pedi
Show your nails some love by treating them with a manicure and pedicure!
Start by brushing your nails around and under to clean any residues of the scrub. Clip nails if necessary, then file gently to achieve your desired nail shape.
Next, push the cuticles gently with a cuticle pusher. The hand and foot spa soak water should’ve helped soften your cuticles so doing this should be easy. Avoid cutting your cuticles as it protects your nails from bacteria.
Before you put on your favorite color or design, apply a base coat. This will create an even surface for your polish and it prevents chipping. Next, apply your favorite polish in layers. Let the polish dry completely before putting another coat. Two coats of your favorite color are enough, finish it off with a matte or glossy finish!
And there you have it! These 5 easy steps are all you need to do for a salon-like hand and foot spa experience!
You can add in a few steps here and there for a more luxurious experience! It’s your spa after all.
